  • What “one item” means

Something one person can lift safely, under about 100 pounds.

Or something heavier that you'll help carry out (at your choice and risk).

Or loose items that fit in a quarter of the bed.

  • Charged on top

These items have a separate disposal charge:

    • Mattress or box spring - $95
    • Television or monitor - $60
    • Tire (off the rim) - $30
    • Refrigerator, freezer, window air conditioner or dehumidifier - $75
    • Other electronics or small appliances - $15

Massachusetts bans mattresses and large appliances from regular trash. Each of these goes to a recycler that charges by the item, so they are never included in the base price.

  • What we can't take

    We cannot take:

    • Paint and stains (unless latex and fully dried)
    • Solvents, fuel, oil, propane, or any gas cylinder
    • Pesticides or pool chemicals
    • Car or lithium batteries
    • Fluorescent tubes
    • Anything that might contain asbestos
    • Medical waste or sharps
    • Dirt, concrete, brick, stone, tile, shingles, or plaster

What counts as “one item”?

At Tangible, one item is something one person can lift safely, under about 100 pounds. Or something heavier you'll help us carry out, at your choice and risk. Or loose items up to a quarter of the bed.

What costs extra?

These items have a separate disposal charge:

  • Mattress or box spring - $95
  • Television or monitor - $60
  • Tire (off the rim) - $30
  • Refrigerator, freezer, window air conditioner or dehumidifier - $75
  • Other electronics or small appliances - $15

Massachusetts bans mattresses and large appliances from regular trash. Each of these goes to a recycler that charges by the item, so they are never included in the base price.

What won't Tangible take?

We cannot take:

  • Paint and stains (unless latex and fully dried)
  • Solvents, fuel, oil, propane, or any gas cylinder
  • Pesticides or pool chemicals
  • Car or lithium batteries
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • Anything that might contain asbestos
  • Medical waste or sharps
  • Dirt, concrete, brick, stone, tile, shingles, or plaster

If something isn't safe for one person to handle, we'll tell you and take the rest.

How do I book, and how soon can you come?

You can book right now. Pick your town, a date and a time, and Tangible arrives in the window you chose. Times open up to 14 days ahead. If you need a date further out, call or text (978) 595-0099 or email hello@hiretangible.com.

What if there's more than I booked?

If there's more than you booked, Tangible will clearly explain what the extra will cost, walking you through it with the marks in our truck bed. You then decide. Nothing extra leaves on the truck or is charged without your documented approval.

How is Tangible different from the big junk-removal companies?

Franchise haulers usually send a crew with a large truck and set the price after they arrive at your home. We post our prices, you book the size you need, and one person does the job with a pickup. It suits a few items or a corner of the garage better than a whole house.

What about booking through a hauling app?

Hauling apps connect you with independent contractors, and the price can change on the day for stairs or items you didn't list. Some charge to cancel. Tangible is one company, Tangible Holdings, Inc., and the person who comes is ours. If we're late or have to cancel, you choose a full refund or a new date.

Couldn't I hire someone by the hour from a gig app?

You can, and for some jobs it works. Just know what you're hiring.

On most gig apps the person is an independent contractor - you are their client, not the app. The app usually doesn't vouch for their skills or insurance, and it limits its own responsibility if something goes wrong. Ask whether they're insured and who pays if something is damaged. Disposal is almost always extra, and many don't bring a truck.

Tangible is one company. The person who comes is ours, and every price includes the truck and the loading.

Why not rent a dumpster?

For a renovation or a whole-house clear-out, a dumpster can make sense. It sits in the driveway for days and you do the loading. For a few things, we load them and they're gone the same visit.

Who is Tangible?

Do you work with rental owners and property managers?

Yes: turnovers, openings and closings, and the trash after a busy season, across Cape Ann and the North Shore. Ask us about a service agreement and commercial rates. Call or text (978) 595-0099.
